Those who live in the Washington DC Metro area know that this winter was one for the record books. Well if you live in a home in Montgomery County you should be pleased to know that starting March 22nd the Montgomery County’s roads will be receiving a spring cleaning. This is all part of the launch of the annual street sweeping program to clean up the 5,000 curb miles of roads in the County. Those who live in Montgomery County homes may be asking themselves how this helps them. The answer to this question is that it is predicted that by cleaning up these roadways roughly 3,000 tons of materials will be removed, and at the same time it will also improve the appearance of all the roads in the county. If the county decided against doing this, all of the salt, sand and other debris would travel into the storm drains, which empty into county streams.
Since this winter was a record breaking one for snow fall, the county had to put down an exorbitant amount of salt and other abrasive materials, which means the Montgomery County Department of Transportation clean up efforts are even more important than ever before. The removal of this excess debri and abrasives from the roads will hopefully help to keep the county’s drainage system clean. If you are wondering how you will know when the county is coming to clean your road, there will be signs posted in neighborhoods a few days before the street is to be swept.
