A Brief History of
Prince George's County Real EstateDuring the Depression Roosevelt initiated the development of three planned communities as part of the New Deal. The idea was to provide home purchase opportunities to bring hope, in the way of
new homes, back to the lives of a downtrodden population. One of these new communities was to be in Greenbelt, Maryland.
The next surge of development brought a significant addition to the initial 1,600 homes built in Greenbelt occurred in Bowie. In the 1960s William Levitt, who later became known as a pioneer in suburban development, built almost 9,000 homes in here. While these vintage homes are not quite as cutting edge as much of the County's new construction, their charm has boosted their value dramatically in recent years.
Other home buying opportunities in both Greenbelt and Bowie include modern condominiums, town homes, and stately mansions. While Roosevelt and Levitt's homes will always bring warmth and value to
Prince George's County, new homes by such nationally recognized builders as NV, University Town Center, and Winchester Homes offer a broad array of amenities.
