Logan Circle Information
If you are thinking about buying real estate in Logan Circle, this article should help you with some of the neighborhood's most pertinent information.   Logan is located at the intersection of Vermont Avenue and 13th street Northwest, six blocks east of Dupont Circle, forming a triangle with Dupont and the White House.  The Logan traffic circle is located at the intersection of 13th street, P street, Rhode Island Ave, and Vermont Ave., and is home to a federal park.

Originally this area was known as Iowa Circle.  It was renamed Logan Circle by Congress in 1930, this was in memory of John A. Logan, a general during the Civil War, and later a U.S. Senator.  During the Civil War Logan was the commander of the "Army of the Tennesee", and later he commanded the "Grand Army of the Republic." Located at the center of the circle, in its park, is a bronze monument of General Logan. The designer of this sculpture was Franklin Simons.

Surrounding the circle is residential real estate, primarily comprised of renovated old mansion, brownstone homes.  A majority of these homes were originally built in the late 19th century, and are indicative of both Late Victorian and Richardsonian design. One particular historical fact to note is that U.S. President Ulysses S. Grant's son had a home here.  In addition, Logan Circle was an important part L' Enfant's and Elicott's architectural design plan for the District.

The Commercial Corridor of Logan Circle, located along 14th Street NW, has undergone a significant revitalization over recent years.  As of 2005 this area is mostly known for its art galleries, and live theater performances.  There have been a number of new bars and restaurants that have opened in the area.   Some people believe that this is due to the economic development of surrounding areas.  In 1999 Whole food Market took over an abandoned Parking Garage in the area.  This was perhaps the most defining moment in the area’s regentrification.
