16th Street Heights Neighborhood Real Estate

Currently this residential neighborhood is Washington DC is composed mostly of Row-homes and semidetached or detached homes. Majority of these homes are currently owner occupied. 16th Street Heights neighborhood is located in the northwest quadrant of Washington DC. Construction on 16th Street eights began as a streetcar community is the 1920s and was continued through the 1930s. There used to be a trolley line that went through the District and ended where this community is located. Currently several different bus lines serve this area, and the old streetcar station which stood at 14th and Buchanan Street Northwest has been transformed into the Metro Bus Barn. This neighborhood has seen several different generations of residents. Currently this neighborhood is composed of very diverse residents.
As of January of 2008 their is a dispute going on between the two local community groups of this area. The 16th Street Height Neighborhood Association, and the 16th Street Heights Civic Association, are currently disputing the exact boundaries of this neighborhood. The funny thing about this argument is that the Washington DC government has defined the Boundaries of this neighborhood. According to the government records the boundaries that show where this neighborhood is located are between Georgia Ave and 16th Street NW, and South of Missouri Ave and north of Arkansas Ave. Even with the government having boarders written on paper, people are still free to have there own opinion about where they believe the boundaries truly are.
Many of the homes in this neighborhood have gone through major renovation in order to modernize them. Gene Delgado who is a resident of this area and has also designed, and managed the renovation of several of his neighbor’s homes believes that people like the design of these old homes, but they also want the modern technologies that you would find in a house built today. What it comes down to is a lot of these homeowners do not ant to sacrifice the charm that these old houses offer. According to Delgado, what he has noticed from the past renovations that he has completed is that most residence keep old features such as foyer, but will install central air conditioning, larger closets, and first floor powder rooms. Delgado has owned his property in this neighborhood for 13 years, and he likes that it is located by Rock Creek Park, downtown, and that there is sufficient parking in the areas. He also enjoys the life and personality of the area, he believes it feels like its own small town, with people saying hi as they are walking there dog, pushing a stroller, sitting on there porch, or just out for a leisurely stroll.
