Renters, owners, and prospective buyers of Montgomery County MD real estate, knowledge has always been considered power, so I wanted to inform you about what has been going on in the city of Rockville Maryland.  For all the people that currently live in one of the many downtown Rockville Maryland homes, or thinking of moving into the downtown area you should know that on Wednesday, October 15th 2008 this cities board gave the go-ahead to move the District Court to the old Rockville library.  The old Rockville Library resides at 99 Maryland Ave; this location is adjacent from the City Hall.  Some of the Montgomery County real estate owners that will be affected by this new construction have been voicing there opinions about finding a different location.   Many of these people have joined the Move the Courthouse Steering committee, in order to try to find a different location for the development.  These members have been opposing the moving of the courthouse to the old library location since 2000, but it finally appears that it will happen.   Some of the reasons that people who live in downtown Rockville Maryland real estate do not want this new construction to be at the old library location.  They believe it will cause an increase in traffic, and parking challenges in an already congested area.  The new Courthouse will be located near a church, school, and residential Montgomery County, Maryland real estate.

To those that currently reside in the area the demolition of the old library will begin in November.  Currently the State Legislature has budgeted $ 71 million, this budget will include the designing, construction, and equipment that will be needed in this building.  You will also find that the budget for this project lists an additional ten million dollars that will be used to acquire the land needed and the planning fees.    Last year the project was delayed by Governor O’Malley in order for him to look at different possible sites, before deciding on using the libraries location.  The Department of General Services finally came to the conclusion that the old library was the best site for this new building.   They believed that the library site was the best property financially.  Another reason that the legislators agreed with using the old library site is they believed if they were to relocate to a further away location it would increase costs and possibly delay the construction for approximately one year.
