Closing several Post offices that call Montgomery County home
Weather you own or rent homes in Montgomery County, you may be in for a change.  If your Montgomery County MD real estate is located in Friendship Heights, Derwood, or Silver Spring you should be informed that the post offices in these three towns are under review, which may possibly lead to the closures of these three offices.  If you are not sure which post office you use, the Derwood post office is located on Muncaster Mill Road in Derwood, the Friendship Heights Post Office is located in Chevy Chase on Wisconsin Avenue and the Silver Spring office is located on Colesville Road in Silver Spring. Currently the study being done by the Postal Service now includes roughly 680 offices.  The reason that these peaces of Montgomery County real estate were added to the list is based on their walk in revenue, which is the money generated by shipping packages, purchasing stamps, and the costs of their leases.  The United States Postal Service has already begun their study on these three offices and they are predicting to have it completed by early fall.

Even though The United States Postal Service will review each of their offices periodically to see how efficient they are, they decided to do this study due to the fact of  its financial situation.  One of the reasons that they have decided to do this study is due to the fact that our economy is in a recession.  Another factor aiding in this decision is because in the age of technology it is not only easier but also less expensive now a days to send an email rather than right a letter and send it by mail.  This has obviously resulted in the Postal Service loosing money.  Currently the Postal Service has been working to get themselves out from under a seven billion dollar deficit.  If any of these post offices in your town end up closing residents that use these offices will be informed in advance of the site's closure.  Also according to one of the Spokeswomen for the Postal Service, if an office does close the employees from that office will be transferred.

Even with none of these office closures being definite the residents of these communities who use the postal services have already been rallying against these potential closings  So if you live in Derwood, Friendship Heights, or Silver Spring, and you use the post office in these towns, you may want to sign the petition to prevent your post office from shutting down.
