The decision by this company to relocate here came after Legett's current organization of a Montgomery County BioScience Task Force. The task force is comprised of a group of private sector biotechnology leaders. This establishment was put into effect to help the county decide what will be the in the best interest for this growing industry.
Opgen Technology Inc. is known as an industry leader in single molecule DNA analysis, they are a leader in microbial genome optical mapping technology. Opgen Technologies was originally located in Madison Wisconsin before moving here. It is believed that some of the reasons for this move was to take advantage of the highly educated work force that is found in these counties boundaries, and due to the presence of the federal agencies and there labs. Another factor that aided in there decision was the momentous success that this county has had in the past dealing with business development efforts. Currently OpGen has already hired 15 new employees, and it is predicted to grow to over 100 employees in the next 2 years.
Currently The Business and Economic Development DBED0 Secretary David W. Edgerley said that OpGen will be offered a $200,000 state loan. 20% of this loan or $20,000 will be matched by Montgomery County in order to assist in setting up the new headquarters for OpGen Technologies Inc.
