New addition to Montgomery County Maryland Real Estate

What’s New with Montgomery County Real Estate

This fall construction begins on a new Maryland real estate development.  This new development will be an updated SoccerPlex.  The construction on this Montgomery County MD real estate will increase the size of the current SoccerPlex in order to seat at least 5,600 patrons.   The reason behind the construction on this Montgomery County Maryland real estate is due to the fact that the Washington Freedom Soccer team will be calling it home.  The Montgomery County Planning Board has unanimously accepted this proposal.

One of the reasons for the expansion of this Montgomery County real estate is the fact there is a specific minimum amount of seating required for a Women’s Professional Soccer Stadium.  The seating requirements are set by the Women’s Professional Soccer League which in the past was known as the Women’s United Soccer Association.

Montgomery County residents may be asking themselves from where is the money coming for the expansion project. The Freedom owners John and Maureen Hendrick’s are projected to incur a cost of $2.6 million to fund this project.  The Freedom have negotiated a year lease at the stadium, even though they have been using the facilities for the past five years when they were part of the amateur  soccer league.  As an amateur league the Freedom would generate crowds anywhere between 1,000 and 1,500 patrons.  Once the construction on this soccerplex addition is completed the stadium will feature a press box, restrooms, box office, a fence and capability to bring in an additional 1,000 seats for temporary use.  There have also been grants donated to this project by non-profit organizations to help fund all of the construction costs that will be incurred do to this expansion.   As of now work on this expansion is scheduled to begin after Thanksgiving in order to give enough time to complete the construction by opening day of soccer season.    Currently the team plans on practicing in the SoccerPlex and its executive office will be located at the Discovery Sports Center.  Also in the current schedule are 10 weekend home games planned. The Freedom plan on playing 3 of these home games at RFK stadium.  Just in case the work is not completed on time a contingency plan has been put into effect to use temporary bleacher seats in order to meet the league standards for seating capacity.

Some of the Benefits that will come from the addition planned for the stadium
  • Increased business for hotels
    • Due to sports tourism
  • Employment opportunities at the stadium
