Montgomery County real estate Weatherization Program
Some Maryland real estate owners will be receiving home weatherization for free.  The state of Maryland is receiving over $61 million from U.S. American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), which will be dedicated to home weatherization.  This money will go to aiding roughly 6,800 Maryland homes, which will include roughly 700 to 800 Montgomery County MD homes receiving aid.  This program is designed to benefit thousands of low income families that live in Maryland homes.  The first Montgomery County MD home that has already begun the weatherization process through the federal stimulus fund is located in Silver Spring.     The work that needs to be completed on this Silver Spring MD home is to add extra insulation, larger gable vents and to put a cap on the flue vent.  Rockville Window and Doors have been contributing to the work done on this Silver Spring home.  Rockville Window and doors is also excited about this new program because they are hoping it will allow them to not only maintain there current staff levels, but also increase their work force.

Once all the weatherization work on these homes is completed it is predicted to save these Maryland homeowners roughly $300 to $400 per year on utility costs.  A prime example of how being more energy conscious can save you money, is that if every household in the state of Maryland decided to remove one incandescent light bulb and replace it with compact florescent bulb, it would save enough energy to power roughly 6,300 homes for a full year.   However this is not the only benefit that this program will bring to the state of Maryland.   It is predicted that this program will also create roughly 150 new green jobs.  In order for you to qualify for the weatherization assistance program you must meet certain requirements.  In order to qualify for this weatherization aid assistance the family must have household incomes 200% below poverty level, or they musty have a 60% of median income.  If you find that you qualify for this aid and you are wondering how to register, you must call your Local Energy Office which can be reached by calling 800.638.7781 or you can go through the Maryland assistance website.

Steps that companies use to go about detecting leaks, and weatherizing your house!

In order to find leaks in your house a company that specialize in weatherization attach a large fan to the front door opening of your home.  They then run this fan which in theory should suck out all of the air.  Once the leaks are detected the workers can go to work on making your home more energy efficient.
