Are you a History buff looking to purchase a Montgomery County home in German Town Maryland? Then you will be happy to know that there’s a project currently going on to turn the Button Farm into a museum.

On Wednesday October 15th,  2008 the state Board of Public Work, approved an agreement allowing Anthony Cohen of Germantown to continue to restore the 19th century farm.  This peace of Montgomery County real estate is located on state owned land.  Anthony Cohen plans on Turning  Button farm into a museum that is focused on showing the life of a slave on a plantation.  The current agreement between Anthony Cohen and the Department Natural resources will allow Cohen to use the property and its facilities for the next 20 years.  The Department of Natural Resources approved the work on the Button Farm by a resident Curatorship program.  The Resident Curatorship Program calls for  Cohen is  to rehabilitate and renovate the Button Farm at 16820 Black Rock Road in Germantown, and he must pay $1 per year in rent.

Anthony Cohen has already been working on restoring the site of the old farm, and it has already been opened to the public, in order to help tell the story of the Underground Railroad.  Another Part of the Agreement that Cohen made with the Department of Natural Resources, is that the Button Farm Living History Center must be opened for public use anywhere between three and five days each year.  In order for Cohen to finance this project, he has been raising money and organizing different projects through the Menare Foundation.  The Menare Foundation is one of Cohen’s non profit groups.  In this year alone Cohen’s project received a $3000,000 bond in the state budget in order to complete the restorations of this soon to be museum.
