Purchase a Home in the Underground Oasis of Crystal City

Located in the southeast corner of Arlington, is the suburban neighborhood of Crystal City.  It is located along a stretch of the Jefferson Davis highway, just south of The Pentagon.  Originally, Crystal City was home to the United States Patent and Trademark Office until it moved to Alexandria in 2005.  At present this city is home to the United States Department of Labor, and many federal government satellite offices.  If you are considering purchasing real estate in Crystal City, Virginia, in addition to the convenience of its Metro rail station, the city is only a few short minutes from Ronald Regan Washington National Airport.

The residential real estate market here is comprised largely of high rise apartment and condominium buildings.  The neighborhood's apartment buildings are largely constructed with internal hallways; this is intentional to encourage residents to interact with one another.  Another particularly interesting fact is that there are underground connecting corridors between many of the buildings and the underground shopping center.  In addition, this District suburb is home to many corporate offices, hotels, and an array of retail stores and restaurants.

Crystal City, was originally composed of industrial sites, junkyards, and low end motels; it was not until the Charles E. Smith Co. came to the area, and began building vital properties.   When this city first began its construction the layout was considered to be avant-garde, largely comprised of 'Super Blocks', which were bounded by major and circulating roads.   Though it was not the city's planners' original intent, the super blocks laid the groundwork to allow it to eventually be noted as a planned community.

The first office, and condominium building, began construction in 1963.  The name of this first building was the Crystal House, which would eventually become the city's namesake.  Other developers, followed what the Crystal House's lead in using Crystal in naming their projects.  Starting in 2005 this city started undergo a redesign, the new goal was to make it a more traditional, urban experience.  Since then, many of the buildings here have changed their names to reflect their traditional street address.
