Washington DC new Real Estate Developments
Are you familiar with the Curtis Chevrolet dealership located at 5929 Georgia Avenue? If not this dealership has been serving the needs of the Washington DC Metro area since 1949, when it was called Hick's. This prime peace of real estate has been sold. The developer Foulger-Pratt is currently finalizing the deal with Dudley Dworken, the property owner. This peace of real estate located in Northwest quadrant of Washington DC has been in the Dworken Family for over 40 years. Foulger - Pratt plan on turning this great 3.5 acre parcel into a mixeduse development, which will include residential rental space, and retail shops. Both parties involved in this transaction have reached an agreement that this mixeduse development will contain quality shopping and dining that residence can enjoy. Foulger - Pratt said this project will include roughly 300 apartment rental units. An interesting fact about the neighborhood where this development is going up, is that it is zoned to have a building which stands sixty five feet tall which is roughly five stories. District Officials believe that this development is a step in the right direction to help in the revival of this area. The city has also added Georgia Avenue to part of the Great Street program, which will be devoting millions of dollars to the repairing of streets, roadways, sewers, and facades of certain areas within the District. This area was at one time considered to be Washington's "Main Street", connecting the neighborhoods of Shaw, Petworth, and Brightwood. This 5.6 mile strip began to suffer, due to the 1968 riots. After the riots many of the residence of the area began to move to the suburbs.
Foulger-Pratt is not the only developer who believe that Georgia Ave is a great area for developing. Located only a block away from the Curtis Chevrolet is a 32 unit condominium building that was completed in 2006, and there is another developer who is planning a 156 unit condominium in Petworth, at the intersection of Georgia Avenue and New Hampshire.
The Dworken family believes that this deal should go through smoothly since his family has a personal relationship with Foulger Pratt, the soon to be developer of this project. This project will be considered a joint venture since the Dworken family will be keeping an equity stake in this project. Dudley Dworken believes that the community will benefit from the project.
